The electromagnetic force plays an important role in our life in that it is solely responsible for the structure of matter from atomic to macroscopic dimension. Even chemical compounds occurring on the earth owe their existence to the electromagnetic interactions. The electrical forces govern the replication of DNA molecules and hence life on our planet. Moreover, the study of electromagnetism will be useful to students in understanding other courses of physics, like the special theory of relativity, optics, quantum mechanics, etc. Block 1: Electrostatics in Free Space: Block 2: Electrostatics in Medium: Block 3: Electric Current and Magnetic Field: Block 4: Electromagnetism: Assessment is by two assignments (30%) and a final examination (70%).
